College Application Procedures

1. Obtain applications by writing to the Office of Admissions of the college(s) in which you are interested. Come to the guidance office or download their application from their Web site. Most schools prefer the last method because they are guaranteed a clear copy. Some can be filed electronically.

2. At least 3 days before the mailing date, hand your counselor in person, the following:

       a. Application with student (and parent) section completed and signed.  (KEEP A COPY OF APPLICATION, IF POSSIBLE.)

       b. Application fee paid by check.  (Place student's name and social security number on check.)

       c. Applications should include a stamped envelope to the university/college that the application is being sent to.

       d. Ask teacher to give a copy of your recommendation to the counseling office in case recommendation does not reach the college.

       e. You are responsible for having test scores sent to colleges directly from test agencies if the school you choose to attend is not one you indicated on your ACT registration to receive your scores.

3. Allow at least two weeks for processing an application.

4. Please see your counselor if you intend to apply for financial aid.

5. If teacher recommendations are required for applications or scholarships:

       a. Provide stamped envelope addressed to the college.

       b. Give teachers the forms well in advance.

       c. Tell them the application/scholarship deadline.

       d. Provide them with a data sheet about yourself.  (Available in Guidance Office)

       e. If you will be requesting more than one recommendation from a teacher, please inform the teacher of this, so he/she will keep a copy.

6. Follow-up communication:

       a. Please notify Mrs. Rein whenever you receive a response to your application.

       b. Be sure to request a final transcript in May to be sent to the college you will be attending.
